Traffic Usage Examples

The amount of Traffic you will use can be hard to determine. As such we have included generous quotas of included traffic each month on our Hosting Plans. As difficult as it is to give consice and meaningful estimates of traffic usage, here are two basic examples of how much traffic a hypothetical website would do in a month. These are over-simplified situations, but should give you an idea of the sort of traffic usage to expect.

Example #1

Let us say that you have a small website for your business. 5 pages with text, some pictures and links. This could be around 0.1 MB in size.

For someone to view 'http://example.com', they will send a tiny little request packet to the servers. The servers will respond by displaying the website. Traffic is measured as everything that example.com both receives and sends. The traffic received by the servers is minimal, so your site could be viewed by 10,000 people in a month, using 1,000 MB of traffic (as is included with the 'Basic' plan.)

Example #2

You have a larger company which uses a lot of e-mail, and attracts a lot of new clients via your website. Lets say that your website is a bit larger: It could be around 20 MB of files, but an average of only 0.5 MB of it is viewed by every visitor - they don't need to see all your content everytime. You also have some external advertising and visitor traffic software running on the site - so every visit will generate around 0.6 MB of traffic. Lets pretend you get 205 visitors in a day.

Web Traffic: 0.6 MB web traffic x 205 visitors per day x 30 days = 3,690 MB per month

You also have 5 employees who use e-mail from the office. Lets say that in an average day they send and receive a total of 2 MB of e-mails.

Emails: 2 MB of e-mail x 5 employees x 30 days = 300 MB traffic in a month

As you can see, this usage pattern would fit nicely within the 4,000 MB quota allowed in the Medium plan.
